Emeritus teacher from Village named Saddleback Part Time Teacher of Year

Music teacher is 94 years old has taught 30 years at Saddleback

At recent commencement exercises in Mission Viejo, Saddleback College announced that it had named 94-year-old Mildred Landecker its Part-Time Professor of the Year.

The Emeritus Institute Instructor is celebrating her 30th year teaching music at the college. The college noted Landecker has an "extensive knowledge of music, enthusiasm and quick wit, Mrs. Landecker's students quickly acquire the same love of the music she teaches them."

According to the college, her students find her teaching style "inspiring" and enjoy her "wonderful sense of humor."

Landecker attended the Julliard School of Music in New York City and earned both a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Arts degree from New York University.

She taught at the High School of Music and Art in New York for 30 years gave voice and piano lessons in her private studio at Carnegie Hall to celebrities like Shari Lewis, Hal Linden and Diahann Carroll.

Landecker moved to Laguna Woods Village (then Leisure World) in 1973 and in 1978 she returned to the classroom at the Saddleback College Emeritus Institute.
