July 11 - GENERAL ASSEMBLY Les Berg will share his experiences at the recent U.U. gathering in Salt Lake City. Catch some of the feeling of inspiration and celebration. Moderator: Lorna McClellan

July 18 - DIGGING DEEP AND SURFACING Bob Dunn will give a more detailed examination of recent developments in the politics and cultural significance of his work as an archaeologist. Moderator: Beth Perkins

July 25 - ANNUAL DINNER this evening at Scotty’s. NO MEETING AT MATHEWS COTTAGE

August 1 - OUR U.U. PRINCIPLES: ON WHAT AUTHORITY? Dale Osborne, U.U. ministerial student, will explore what authority we claim as opposed to other religious traditions. There will be an "order of service" including hymns with keyboard accompaniment. We are glad to welcome Dale back to our fellowship. Moderator: Les Berg

August 8 - DIM SUM Our yearly trek to taste these delicious Chinese treats. Please call Beth Perkins for details as to location and time.

August 15 - CAN WE HAVE A GOOD DAY EVERY DAY EVEN IF WE MADE OTHER PLANS? Group discussion.

August 22 - OPEN FORUM Shared comments, insights on varied subjects. Moderator: Rich Johnson

August 29 - PICNIC! We will gather at 11:00 a.m. in Holly Glen Park. Cooking facilities are available there. Please bring charcoal, your own paper plates, utensils, cups, beverages, and food to share. To get to the park in Hawthorne: go north on Aviation Blvd., past Rosecrans, take a right turn at l38th St., left turn at Isis Ave., and right turn at 137th Street (not 137th Place). The park is between Hindry and Glasgow. Please call Beth Perkins if you have a question.

*****ATTENTION: For Openers and Refreshment persons: *****

OPENERS arrive at 10:30, unlock doors, cabinet, put out sign, start water, put on tablecloth, set up cups, coffee, etc. for the refreshments. Please light the fellowship candle.

REFRESHMENTS need to arrive by 10:45. Please arrange a trade if you cannot attend or clean up on the day assigned. When you bring refreshments, it is your turn to be responsible for the clean up of the entire refreshment table including the coffee water and supplies. If you need help, just ask. By the way, thank-you very much!!!

If you cannot bring refreshments on the date listed in the newsletter, you may call someone and trade with them for another date that is more convenient.

July 18 - "SWINGIN’ SUNDAE" The Concert Singers present your jazz favorites from the ‘20s, ‘30s, & ‘40s, served with Make-Your-Own Sundaes! Sunday at 3:30. Covenant Presbyterian Church, 6323 West 80th Street (at Sepulveda) in Westchester. $10.00, in adv./$12.00 at door.

July 24 - GARAGE SALE at Sharon Spurlock’s home. You may bring your items to her home the week before the sale. The sale will begin at 5:30 a.m., as that is when buyers want to buy! Volunteers are needed on Friday evening to get the sale items ready and on Saturday morning as well. We can use two or three shifts on Saturday. The afternoon shift will be putting away unsold items and cleaning up. Call Sharon.

July 25 - ANNUAL DINNER AND SUNSET CELEBRATION - Note: SUNDAY evening, a new choice for the early evening dinner at Scotty’s in Hermosa, Beach. We will gather for cocktail hour at 4:30, with dinner served at 5:30.. The cost will be $15.50 per person (includes dinner, beverage, desert, tax, and tip.) Wine and beer are extra. Call Penny Hendricks to make your reservation and choose your entree. Volunteers are needed to supply and do table decorations, to MC, tell jokes, stories, acts, etc. Help us make this event a big success! Penny

Send some love to Lorelei Blessing who is struggling with a painful recovery from her surgery.

HURRAH for SBUF! We have two new members: Cy and Vivian Amrich. They bring with them their 9 year old son. During July, Vivian will be recovering from a major surgery. Wish her a speedy recovery. We can look forward to getting to know them better.

Ada Furth has been dealing with yet another oral surgery. We have missed her!

Art Schwartz (Bea Schwartz’ brother) and his wife will be coming in from Washington for a visit July 25 through August 1. Hope we get to see him and meet the new woman in his life!
