December 2001 - January 2002 “No act of kindness, no
matter how small, is ever wasted.” Aesop December 2 - ONE MARKET,
UNDER GOD. Carol and John Simpson
continue a discussion of the theories in this book by Thomas Frank. Throughout the 90's, the notion that big
government was bad, deregulation was good, and free markets equaled a free
society gained a stronghold in our nation's thinking. But have the events of 9/11 altered the course of what had become
almost a religious mantra? The Simpsons
will moderate. December 9 - THE HEALING
POWER OF LAUGHTER. Marilyn Doty
presents the program. Ted Doty
moderates this morning. December 16 - TAI CHI
CHUAN. This will be a history and
demonstration of simple Tai Chi Chuan, a movement meditation. Beth Perkins presents and moderates. December 23 - HOW WE
CELEBRATE. Come together to share some
of your holiday memories; sing carols and other holiday songs; light a
candle. Penny will moderate. December 30 - TWO MUSICAL
MASTERPIECES. There is one God and J.
S. Bach is his prophet. (Plus a minor prophet.) Rich Johnson presents and moderates the program. January 6 - PRAYER: PRAISE, THANKSGIVING, PETITION, OR
MEDITATION? We will discuss the meaning
of several categories of prayer in a world view which does not depict God as the
traditional "Man Upstairs."
We compare the attitude of asking for divine favor with one of engaging in a
spiritual discipline. Bill Nunan will present this topic and moderate. January 13 - THE
MAYANS. Peter Landecker presents this
program from his recent travels. VOLUNTEER SCHEDULE Opening Date Refreshments Beth P. December 9 John/Carol Simpson Les B.. December 16 Miles Thompson Miles T. December 23 Claire Aukerman ???
