 MAY 2002 NEWSLETTER

“Men may believe what they cannot prove.  They may not be put to the proof of their religious doctrines or beliefs.  Religious experiences which are as real as life to some may be incomprehensible to others.”     by William O. Douglas, Supreme Court Decision

SUNDAY  PROGRAMS

May 12.  REMEMBERING MOTHERS.  (Mothers Day) Share your mother through stories and memories.  Have you in any way “become” your mother?  Beth Perkins will moderate.

May 19.  THE UNIVERSITY OF PEACE.  Visit the only University of Peace in the world.  It is sanctioned by the United Nations and is in San Jose, Costa Rica.  Ted Doty will speak and   moderate this morning.

May 26.  JAZZ, AND MORE.  Guest Bob Brodsky plays early jazz, New Orleans’ style.  This lovable favorite and true moldy fig will present a program of audio music, slides, and view-graph.  Miles Thompson brings us this program.  Penny will moderate.

June 2.  CONVERSATIONS WITH GOD.  This is what author Neale Donald Walsch claims to have had over the past decade, and he has chronicled his experiences in a series of best-sellers.  Perhaps it is nothing more than a figment of Walsch's imagination, but at least he has created a character that even Unitarians might find appealing.  Come discover what this God is like.  Carol Simpson will speak and moderate.

June 9.  POETRY ENCORE!  Jackie Berg will continue with her program on poetry.  Please bring one (or more) of your favorites or just come to enjoy the other poems shared.  Jackie will moderate.

June 16.  ANNUAL LUNCHEON.  Once a year the fellowship steps out for a special dinner or lunch.  This year we are meeting for lunch (in a private room) at the Szechwan Restaurant in Manhattan Beach.  Time:  1:45 p.m.  The address is 924 N. Sepulveda Blvd., Manhattan Beach (near 10th Street).  Call Beth Perkins for more information.  Food choices will be determined ahead of time.  At this gathering we will be electing the Board of Directors for the new fiscal year July 2002 through June 2003.  See below for a listing of those willing to do the job.  If you would like to add your name to the list, call Penny Hendricks.  No meeting at Mathews Cottage.
