“Every time the mind is
still and we experience being in the moment, we reconnect with the Self, the
consciousness that enlivens the mind in the same way that electricity enlivens
a light bulb.”
From Joan Borysenko
November 2 - THE CHICANO
POPULATION AND POLITICS. Regina Ramirez
will speak to us regarding how the growing Chicano population fits in with
Southern California politics. (United
Latin American Citizens Activities) Ted
Doty will moderate.
November 9 - A CREDO FOR
LIVING. This will be Session 10 of the
Building Your Own Theology series. If
you have a chance, spend a little time thinking about your own credo. What is at the core of your beliefs that
influences your behavior, that guides you, that inspires you into being the
person you are every day in your actions, your thoughts, your hope for the
future???? Come and participate in this
program led by Penny Hendricks. Penny
will moderate.
November 16 - WHAT IS A
UUSC? Our guest speaker Melosa Eranda
will talk about the UUSC, the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee. This really fine organization is doing
really good things in many parts of the world and here at home as well. Educating people in ways to improve the
quality of their own lives, how to support themselves; how to better grow their
own food; how to maintain better practices for better health. Beth Perkins will moderate.
November 23 - CARE
GIVING. Milt Holmen will talk about
caring for a loved one as they age and become incapacitated in some way. This is an emotionally charged subject that
we may face as we move into retirement years.
Marilyn Doty will moderate.
November 30 - SAVING YOUR
BRAIN. Les Berg will share this book by
Jeff Victoroff, M.D. a neurologist at USC.
The author presents a revolutionary plan to boost brain power, to
improve memory and protect yourself against aging and Alzheimer’s disease. Les will moderate.
December 7 - THE CANONS OF
DISTRIBUTIVE JUSTICE. Reverend Ernie
Pipes (previously with the UU Church of Santa Monica) will speak about the
ethics of our economic policies and the moral issues of surrounding
globalization. Bob Johnson will
