SUNDAY PROGRAMS

September 5 - “HOW THE REST OF THE WORLD SAW A DIFFERENT WAR” - A presentation of Democracy Now host Amy Goodman's scathing critique of the U.S. mainstream corporate media's coverage of the Iraq war.  Goodman's 30-minute DVD "Independent Media in a Time of War" will be followed by discussion moderated by John Simpson.

September 12 - "MARGARET SANGER ANSWERS HER MAIL" - Reverend Carol Hilton will talk about the life of this 20th century nurse.  Margaret Sanger became aware of the struggle of poor women to limit family size. She worked for birth control accessibility her entire life. This talk will hit the highlights of some of the issues she dealt with.  Reverends Carol & Dwight Hilton retired after 12 years at Palomar U.U. Fellowship in Vista, CA.  Beth Perkins will moderate

September 19 – HEALTH CARE FOR ALL CITIZENS - Can we afford it? What is in it for me?  Jim Dawson, a national board member of the Gray Panthers, will answer these and other questions as he presents some ideas on how to make this a feasible plan.  Moderator: Ted Doty

September 26 – COMING OUT:  IT’S EVERYBODY’S BUSINESS - Michael Eselun, hospice chaplain, co-founder of Glide (Gays and Lesbians Initiating Dialogue for Equality) and a gay man, will explore the many dimensions of coming out- something we must all do - as we investigate the opportunities for us on both sides of the closet door.  Moderator: Linda Klein

October 3 - THE ART OF VALUE CLARIFICATION - We welcome Rev. Ernie Pipes, as our guest speaker.  From Rev. Pipes:  Election year rhetoric is too often a con game around the subject of values.  For many of us, our confusion of methods for clarifying and defining our values renders us vulnerable to emotional seduction.  We can, however, wrest our own considered values from the available array - if we know how.  The moderator will be Carol Simpson.

October 10 - H.E.L.P. (Helping Elder Law Program) - Pat Long, Director of Community Services and co-founder of H.E.L.P. will discuss six items that each person should have in their "Aging Preparedness Kit".  She will provide information on the free and low-cost services H.E.L.P. provides and valuable resources for older adults, their children and friends.  Moderator: Ted Doty
