November 14 - A RED IN THE HOUSE   Stephen Fleischman is an award-winning documentary writer-director-producer whose career included ten years at CBS News and twenty years at ABC News.  Steve will discuss how the mainstream media arrived at the sorry state it’s in today and how he found Marxism to be a valuable tool in analyzing the world.  Moderator:  John Simpson.

 

November 21 - GROWING UP IN COMMUNIST RUSSIA.   Our speaker Roman Danilov grew up in Russia and saw the fall of the U.S.S.R.  As a news anchor in Siberia, he had a unique perspective on what was happening in his country. He will share his story and tell us, among other things, how Communism affected his life, how the people in the U.S.S.R. viewed us, and how he immigrated to the U.S.    Moderator:  Linda Klein

 

November 28 - FRIENDSHIP FORCE TO PERU!   Peter Landecker and Lenore Snodey will show a video they made about their recent Friendship Force Los Angeles (FFLA http://thefriendshipforcelosangeles.org) trip to Peru. They spent their first week living with a wonderful family in Lima, and participating in many events with the Friendship Force Lima.  Peter and Lenore will share their experiences in making new friendships in this exotic and beautiful country built on Inca and other cultures.   Moderator:  Peter Landecker

 

December 5 - UNDERSTANDING GENDER CHANGE   Dr. Annemarie St. John will relate her experiences and perspective on the phenomenon of being transgendered.  Dr. St. John recently underwent male-to-female gender correction surgery in Thailand.  She holds a Ph.D. in Mythological Studies and Depth Psychology.   Moderator:  Beth Perkins

 

December 12 - TANZANIA   Peter Glenn recently returned from a 2 year assignment in Tanzania with the African branch of the International Jesuit Volunteers. He plans to return after the holidays to continue working on his film about the aids epidemic in Tanzania.   Moderator:  Claire Aukerman

 

December 19 - HOLIDAY MEMORIES - Come celebrate this holiday season by sharing your special memories, traditions, and stories of holidays past.  Special refreshments will be served.  The Moderator will be Carol Simpson.

 

December 26 - AFTER CHRISTMAS PARTY/POTLUCK  (No meeting in the morning at Mathews Cottage.)  Come to Penny and Chuck Hendricks’ home.  (See below for more details under Calendar.)

     *****ATTENTION: For Openers and Refreshment persons:  *****

OPENERS arrive at 10:30 a.m., unlock doors, cabinet, put out sign, start water, put on tablecloth, set up cups, coffee, etc. for the refreshments.  Please display the fellowship candle on the circular table.

REFRESHMENTS need to arrive by 11:00 a.m.  Please arrange a trade if you cannot attend or clean up on the day assigned.  When you bring refreshments, it is your turn to be responsible for the clean up of the entire refreshment table including the coffee water and supplies. 

   If you cannot bring refreshments on the date listed in the newsletter, you may call someone and trade with them for another date that will be more convenient for you.

December 5 - SBUF BOARD MEETING at Mathews Cottage after fellowship at approximately 12:30.

December 19 - HOLIDAY CONCERT   The CONCERT SINGERS will perform Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.  Come to the Covenant Presbyterian Church, 6323 W. 80th  Street (at Sepulveda) in Westchester.  See singers Rich Johnson or Bob Johnson for advanced ticket purchase or more information.

December 26 - AFTER CHRISTMAS GALA POTLUCK AND WHITE ELEPHANT PARTY at 4:00 p.m. at Penny and Chuck’s home.  Bring a dish to share and a wrapped gift of a “white elephant’’.  After dinner, we will exchange “white elephants” in a game of give and take.  Call Penny at to indicate your plans to attend (or not) and the kind of food you plan to bring.
