SUNDAY PROGRAMS

June 5 - A REFLECTION ON EL SALVADOR   Today’s speaker, Jim Conn, has been Mayor of Santa Monica, a Methodist minister, and is very active in Social Justice.  He comes to share an experience with us:  From Savior of the World to the Cathedral in central San Salvador, we walked with 40,000 people to honor the memory of Archbishop Romero - assassinated 25 years ago by death squads paid for by American tax dollars.  Three churches in the core of the city tell the story of life at the edges of the Empire.  You may enjoy the architecture but the anthropology is another story.  Moderator: Penny Hendricks

June 12 - THE NATIVE AMERICAN COMMUNITY   Our speaker Rhonda Thomas, a director in senior activities at Beach Cities Health District and a Native American, has been very active in local Indian affairs.  She will tell us about her involvement and about some of the activities we can all attend.  Moderator: Beth Perkins

June 19 - THE SCOOP ON POOP  and answers to questions you didn’t even ask!!!  This will be a video taped presentation and demonstration by Dr. Mehmet C. Oz, M.D. and Dr. Michael Roizen, M.D., co-authors of the book “You, The Owner’s Manual” An insider guide to the Body that will make you Healthier and Younger.  (as seen on Oprah).  Penny Hendricks will moderate.

June 26 - MOBY DICK   Post W.W.II there were many UFO sightings.  Some of these sightings were actually large helium balloons that were used for U.S. photo reconnaissance missions.  Ted Doty will tell us about his involvement in 'Moby Dick', one such secret project.  Moderator:  Ted Doty

July 3 - LIVING UNDER FASCISM   It couldn't happen here in America...or could it?  The Rev. Davidson Loehr, minister of First UU Church in Austin, Texas, delivered a chilling sermon last fall outlining what fascism is, and how to recognize it when we see it.  Excerpts of his sermon will be presented by Carol Simpson.  John Simpson will moderate.
