SUNDAY PROGRAMS

March 26 - KATRINA, SIX MONTHS LATER   On this UUSC JUSTICE SUNDAY, we will take a look at some injustice.  This will be a video tape presentation that shows what has happened to many displaced persons and what has not been done in Mississippi and Louisiana.  Reporters Andersen Cooper of CNN and correspondent Lisa Ling take us on this revealing trip.  A discussion of what is happening there now will follow.  Penny Hendricks will moderate.

April 2 - PURITY AND DANGER.   The Rev. Ernie Pipes will speak about our quest for purity, order and control by way of distinctions.  His talk will also offer an analysis of the concepts of pollution and taboo.  Ernie Pipes was the longtime minister of the Santa Monica Unitarian Church.  Beth Perkins will moderate.

April 9 - IS SELF-WORTH DEFINED BY OUR NET WORTH?   Everyone is interested in money, and almost all of us are concerned about having enough or keeping what we have.  Yet dollars alone don't guarantee a fulfilling life, and excessive wealth more often than not becomes an obstacle to contentment.  Are we truly using our money to support our values?  Trish Lester -- a congregation member from UU Santa Clarita and successful entrepreneur, saver and investor -- will lead us in an enlightening service that explores money and spirituality.  Carol Simpson will moderate.

April 16 - "DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT THE BIBLE"   This book by Kenneth C. Davis presents some facts you may never have learned in Sunday School.  Was Jericho built on an earthquake fault?  Did the Jews really cross the Red Sea?  Davis examines some of the biblical archaeological evidence and explains mistranslations.  Linda Klein leads as we continue through the bible during this Passover holiday and examine when and if the Jews were slaves in Egypt, their exodus out of bondage, and their journey across the desert.  Linda will moderate.

April 23 – HEAVEN   What is Heaven?  What does it look like?  How do you get there?  Who gets into heaven?  These questions and many more are asked and answered in interviews between Barbara Walters and a variety of people, including the Dalai Lama, a Cardinal, a Rabbi, a black minister, a Moslem, born again Christians, and others.  We will begin this video tape shortly after 11:00 a.m. to allow time for some discussion.  Penny Hendricks will moderate.

ANNUAL AUCTION  Did you “buy” a breakfast, a haircut, a dinner or refreshments???  If you did, be sure to follow up with your offering or to enjoy your purchase.  Last year the auction was held later in the fiscal year on May 14.  This year we are trying a variation of the auction, something with new twist that will combine fund raising with social activity.  Click here as well as read upcoming newsletters for more details.

If there is a particular topic you would like to see presented on a Sunday morning, or an organization you want to know more about, or a good book you would like to share, or any other ideas for Sunday morning programs, please call Penny Hendricks (newsletter editor) and she will pass it on to the program committee.  Your input is valuable to us!  Thank you for your help.  Call Penny and leave a message.
