“Faith is the daring of the soul to go farther than it can see.”    William Newton Clarke

SUNDAY PROGRAMS

April 30 - THE BAHAI FAITH.  Today members of the local Bahai group will visit the fellowship and share with us who they are.  Dr. Flor Geola will be the main speaker.  She has a private practice and teaches at UCLA as a Clinical Professor of Medicine.  Come and learn about this group.  Penny Hendricks will moderate.

May 7 - A LIGHT HEARTED LOOK INTO STRESS MANAGEMENT.  Ronda Thomas returns with this “timely” topic.  This is a chance to revisit and be reminded of some practices which may be helpful at this time.  Ronda is involved in senior activities at Beach Cities Health District.  She is Native American.  She is a licensed therapist and counselor.

May 14 - THE CHALICE AND THE BLADE.   In this book, author Riane Eisler discusses  how we were transformed from a benevolent, cooperative, nurturing,  equalitarian, goddess worshipping species in the Neolithic period to an authoritarian, male dominated one in historical times.  Now that we so badly need the earlier nurturing qualities to survive as a species, how can we encourage their revitalization.  Bring your ideas for promoting these values.  Bob Johnson will lead the discussion.

May 21 - CIRCULO DE AMIGAS.   Unitarian Pat McCully started this project 20 years ago to help girls of Nicaragua to attend school and further economic independence of women.  Pat will share slides of this work and tell us about it.  Beth Perkins will moderate.

May 28 - PRIMARY ELECTION PRIMER. - John Simpson will present a look at the key issues in the June 6 Democratic primary election for governor and Congress, as well as other ballot measures. Carol Simpson will moderate.

June 4 - AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL.   We will have speaker Gabriel Stauring who will share the work of this organization and present slides which focus on the major concern at this time.  Penny Hendricks will moderate.

ANNUAL AUCTION  Did you “buy” a breakfast, a haircut, a dinner or refreshments???  If you did, be sure to follow up with your offering or to enjoy your purchase.  Last year the auction was held later in the fiscal year on May 14.  This year we are trying a variation of the auction, something with new twist that will combine fund raising with social activity.  Read upcoming newsletters for more details.

As of April 24th, the following members have agreed to being nominated to serve on the SBUF board of directors for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2006:  Richard Johnson, John Simpson, Penny Hendricks, Beth Perkins, Les Berg, and Peter Landecker.  If you would like to add your name to the list, call Penny Hendricks.

If there is a particular topic you would like to see presented on a Sunday morning, or an organization you want to know more about, or a good book you would like to share, or any other ideas for Sunday morning programs, please call Penny Hendricks (newsletter editor) and she will pass it on to the program committee.  Your input is valuable to us!  Thank you for your help.

If you would like e-mail reminders when a new SBUF newsletter is placed on the web, please send a request to sbuf@yahoo.com
