SUNDAY PROGRAMS
November
26 - HEALTH CARE FOR ALL.
John Flick will be showing a 20 minute documentary video titled, “The
Healthcare Solution: California One Care”, followed by a question and answer
session. The video describes our
broken healthcare system and how the solution is a “single payer” universal
health care system like that proposed in the recent SB 840 legislation.
The video also describes the One Care NOW statewide grassroots campaign
to mobilize support for this health care plan.
Join the campaign! Carol
Simpson will moderate.
December
3 - GOD VS.
SCIENCE.
This program presents a debate of the question of compatibility between
God and Science. One scientist, Richard Dawkins says that close reading of the
evidence should lead toward atheism. Another
scientist, Francis Collins (the genome pioneer), has made scientific
achievements and also possesses religious conviction. Can he credibly argue that science and God are in
harmony—that science is of God. John
Simpson and Robert Johnson will “play” the parts as they read from the
debate printed in Time magazine. Penny
Hendricks will moderate the program and discussion.
December
10 - THE YIN AND YANG OF JUNG.
Carl Jung took psychoanalysis from where Freud left off.
He had major insights that broadened both theory and therapy.
These include the collective unconscious and personality types. Rich
Johnson will speak about Jung and his ideas, and will lead a discussion of these
concepts. Rich will moderate.
December
17 - A MYSTIC. Dee Masters will
share his interest in the mysticism of the Sufi poet Hafiz. He will share his own mysticism , explore your mysticism, and
look at the mysticism of Unitarians. Dee
is a member of the Pacific Unitarian Church , a high school teacher, and an
excellent speaker. Penny Hendricks
will moderate.
December
24 - WISHING EVERYONE A DAY OF KIND THOUGHTS AND GOOD FEELINGS!
There will be no meeting at Mathews Cottage today.
December
31 - ACCEPTING CHANGE.
As the year 2006 comes to an end, we can look back at changes--good or
not so good-- and how those changes have affected us and our future.
Do you make “resolutions” for yourself?
What gives you hope? If you
are granted 3 wishes, what would your wishes be?
Come and participate in this sharing program.
Penny Hendricks will moderate.
January 7 - Pot-Luck Dinner Party and White Elephant Gift Exchange at 4:30 p.m. Call Penny for more information. No meeting at Mathews Cottage today.

SBUF PROGRAMS
UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST SERVICE COMMITTEE
UUSC
is the separate organization that ensures that UU values result in action.
We can advance economic justice. We can defend civil liberties. We
can make environmental justice a reality. We can ensure that the most
vulnerable people are not denied their rights when disaster strikes. Together,
we make a difference! SBUF has been recognized for its support of UUSC.
In 2003, only 19% of the fellowship members gave financial support to the
service committee. In 2004, 2005 and 2006, 45%, 55% and 71% SBUF members are giving support to the work of
the service committee, respectively. Many thanks to Peter Landecker for serving as our
UUSC representative, reminding us to support this valuable organization.
To learn more about how this organization works and how your donation is being
used, visit on line at www.uusc.org.
A special bunch of thank yous to Bob Johnson and Linda
Klein for hosting a yummy potluck and General Membership Meeting on October
15. We ate well and had a great time!!!
