                                             SUNDAY PROGRAMS

May 6 - MY PERSONAL LEAP OF FAITH   Bill Nunan will discuss the development of his essay presented March 26 on NPR.  Bill is a past member of SBUF.

May 13 – INHERENT WORTH AND DIGNITY   We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote the inherent worth and dignity of every person.  This comes from the bylaws of the Unitarian Universalist Association, Article II Principles and Purposes.  Do we “walk the talk”?  Richard Johnson will lead this discussion.

May 20 - IF THERE IS A GOD, SHE IS A WHALE    Getting up close and personal with the friendly gray whales in the San Ignacio Lagoon of Baja was a peak religious experience for Carol Simpson and several of her fellow travelers on their early March adventure. Carol will show video that includes humans caressing and kissing a baby whale, and discuss what made the encounter so magical. John Simpson will moderate, and also add his two cents worth.

May 27 – NO MEETING IN MATHEWS COTTAGE TODAY.

On May 28,  Memorial Day  Linda Klein and Bob Johnson will host a Potluck and General Meeting at their home in El Segundo at 4:00 p.m.  Main meat dishes will be provided, but side dishes, vegetable dishes, fruit, desserts would be appreciated.  Penny Hendricks is coordinating the “pots” and would like to convey to Linda and Bob whether or not you plan to attend.  Please call Penny or send her an e-mail.

June 3 – WHAT IS IT ABOUT WALLS?    From Hadrian’s to China, from East Berlin to Israel, from the DMZ to the Green Zone, from Suburbia to the Border --- why do we humans persist in building what does not, apparently, work?  Is there a message here?  Rev. Jim Conn returns to present this program.  Jim is an excellent speaker.  Currently he is Director of New Ministries for the California-Pacific Conference of the United Methodist Church.  Jim was Minister of the Santa Monica Church for years.  He also served as Mayor of Santa Monica.  Come and enjoy.  Penny Hendricks will moderate today.

Your input is valuable!  Thank you for your help.

WE ARE GLAD YOU ASKED!!!

How do I become a member of the South Bay Unitarian Fellowship??  Membership is open to all persons 15 years of age or older who sign a membership card expressing agreement with the purpose of the Fellowship.  Members become eligible to vote and hold office three months after signing membership cards.  Members are expected to participate in SBUF activities and to provide a helping hand and financial support when needed.

HURRAH for the fellowship!!!  We have a new member:  Milt Holmen has been attending many Sunday mornings over the years as well as offering a variety of programs.  Milt officially became our newest member.

KUDOS to Les Berg.  Les led the effort to replace the SBUF sign on the west side of Mathews Cottage.  Thank you, Les.  The new sign is a big improvement.

More KUDOS to Les Berg.  There will be another smaller SBUF sign indicating the entrance to Mathews Cottage.

If you would like e-mail reminders when a new SBUF newsletter is placed on the web, please send a request to sbuf@yahoo.com
