                                             SUNDAY PROGRAMS

July 8 - TRAINING FOR SELF-CONTROL, FREEDOM & HAPPINESS    This presentation sketches the transformative practices that seem to be required.  Among them is a "vocabulary of feelings."  Come and enjoy Reverend Ernie Pipes as he returns to provide nourishment for our hearts and minds.  Ernie Pipes served as the longtime, well loved minister of the Santa Monica U.U. Church.  Bob Johnson will moderate.

July 15 - NEW MEDIA’S THREAT TO DEMOCRACY    Has the emergence of the Internet, talk radio and other niche media undermined mass communication, common experiences and thus our shared understanding of problems, ultimately posing a threat to democracy?  Former journalist John M. Simpson thinks so.  He will briefly outline his theory and then moderate a discussion

July 22 - Alaska!    Lenore Snodey and Peter Landecker will relate their experiences exploring Alaska in May, 2007.  They traveled deep into Denali Park to see wildlife (including grizzly bear families, mountain sheep, elk, caribou, and eagles) Peter will share pictures and will talk about the history and culture of Alaska.  Peter will moderate this morning.

July 29 - ACCEPTANCE    “We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote:   Acceptance  of one another and encouragement of spiritual growth in our congregations.”  This comes from the bylaws of the Unitarian Universalist Association, Article II Principles and Purposes.  Rich Johnson will lead this discussion of the 3rd  principle.

August 5 - UNITARIANS FROM HERE, THERE, AND EVERYWHERE     Les Berg will share his trip to Portland Oregon last month where he attended the annual meeting of Unitarians from fellowships and churches all over the United States.  Some of the subjects presented:  Oregon’s Death with Dignity Law, and The Pentagon Papers Revisited with a panel that included Daniel Ellsberg.  Learn what other Unitarians are up to.  Les will moderate.

August 12 - HEALTH QUIZ AND MORE    From Dr. Oz as he appeared again on Oprah.  Come and learn more about yourself as we try to answer some questions and listen as Dr. Oz answers more.   Penny Hendricks will moderate and provide this video tape.
