                                             SUNDAY PROGRAMS

November 4 - IMPEACHMENT - Yes or No?  Have Bush and Cheney committed high crimes and misdemeanors against the citizens of the United States?  Should they be impeached?  Jerry Parker will present the case against Impeachment. Be prepared to challenge him if you think they should be impeached.   Penny Hendricks will moderate.

November 11 - RIGHT OF CONSCIENCE AND DEMOCRATIC PROCESS   “We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote:  The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large.”  This is the 5th of the Unitarian Universalist Association, Article II Principles and Purposes.  Rich Johnson will lead the discussion of this 5th  principle.  Richard will moderate.

November 18 -  THE INTENTIONAL LIFE:  BUDDHISM AND THE NEUROSCIENCE OF DREAMS    The results from using functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (f-MRI) in order to examine the dreaming brain, now appear to verify the wisdoms of ancient sages.  In B.C.E.  India, the Buddha taught how to live mindfully.  Since early childhood, Barbara Reinhart has been fascinated with recalling and interpreting dreams.  From her reading and clinical experience, she will speak about the ways in which she synthesizes the findings of brain research, psychological assumptions and the emotional and spiritual meanings.  Barbara is a longtime Unitarian and a past member of SBUF.  She currently lives in Seal Beach.   Penny Hendricks will moderate.

November 25 - A FULLY HUMAN THANKSGIVING - What is the relationship between this most American of holidays and our own heritage as religious humanists.  John Morehouse is the minister at Pacific Unitarian Church in Palos Verdes.  Come and enjoy this dynamic speaker. Peter Landecker will moderate this morning. After the service and a short refreshment break, Rev. John will offer ideas for SBUF to be more rewarding for its members.

December  2 - THE BUDDHIST WISDOM OF THE DALAI LAMA   Learning how to take control of your mind,  developing a consciousness that is highly trained, guiding your life skillfully across the uncertainties of life - these are some of the  goals of the great wisdom traditions.  The Dalai Lama is a highly evolved example of Buddhist wisdom - and his teachings form the background of this presentation.  Ernie Pipes, our minister friend, retired from the Santa Monica Unitarian Church, will return to share with us.
