                                             SUNDAY PROGRAMS

October 5 –  THE SOUL OF THE NEW CHINA   Bill Moyers presents a look inside China –nothing is as it seems.  This video is current, presented the week following the Olympics.  It is full of scenes and information that you did not see as you watched the Olympics.   Included is an interview with Philip P. Pan (Washington Post Foreign Service), author of Out of Mao’s Shadow—the Struggle for the Soul of a New China.   Penny Hendricks will moderate.

October 12 – THE AVAILABLE CONTINENT    We are meeting on Columbus Day - a little noticed holiday.   When this continent became available to Europeans, a momentous wave of events unfolded that still beg for interpretation.    Reverend Emeritus Ernie Pipes will present his ideas and lead us in a discussion.  Ernie Pipes was minister at the Santa Monica Unitarian Church before he retired.  Beth Perkins will moderate.

October 19 – BALLOT MEASURES AND RELATED STUFF   John Simpson will lead the discussion of the ballot measures.  If you have any information provided by a particular organization or point of view, please bring the information to share with us.  John Simpson  will moderate.

October 26 – TO BE ANNOUNCED

November  2 -  THE  FRIENDSHIP FORCE OF LA VISITS ENGLAND   Lenore Snodey and Peter Landecker will present a program about their visit to County Cleveland (near the Tees River in northeast England, and the Isle of Wight (in southern England).  Peter and Lenore stayed with two different families making friends and learning about the history and culture of each area. They will project photos and a video taken to illustrate their adventures.  See http://ff-la.org/photo.htm  for six sample pictures of their trip.  The purpose of Friendship Force is to create personal friendship links between countries.

November 9 – POTLUCK AND  GENERAL MEETING    Come to the home of Linda Klein and Bob Johnson at 4:00 p.m.  on Sunday afternoon.  Save the date and see the next newsletter for more information.
