SUNDAY PROGRAMS
December
6 - SCROOGENOMICS: Why You Shouldn't Buy Presents for the Holidays.
According to yuletide economics, we value the gifts we receive less than
the price the giver paid. So, for
allocating resources (getting stuff to the right people), holiday giving is a
complete loser. Still, sellers
exploiting our holiday memories cause value destruction global in scope. Thom
Kilpatrick presents. John
Simpson will moderate.
December 13 – TIS THE SEASON Come celebrate the holidays at a program of stories and music. Share your best holiday memories and traditions, followed by singing Christmas carols. Carol Simpson will moderate and provide keyboard accompaniment.
December 20
– UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST CHRISTMAS
TRADITIONS Though
Christmas was banned in Massachusetts
in 1659, it became a season for aggressive begging and boisterous invasion of
the homes of the well-to-do. Before too long, gang violence and riots
were added to the mixture. So what changed? Come to this service and
find out! Rev. Marguerite D.
Lovett was minister at Long Beach Unitarian Church for 17 years.
Come to meet her and hear what she has to share.
Peter Landecker will moderate.
December 27 – PEACE WITHIN AND WITHOUT Come and smoke the Peace Pipe. How do you feel about the recent decision Obama made on Dec. 2nd? If you have something to share on this subject, we need to hear it. I am tired of accepting what we are doing. I have a pendant that I received on my very first Mother’s Day, in 1969, that reads: "War is not healthy for children and other living things." My patience is wearing thin---I was really looking forward to a “change”. Penny Hendricks will moderate, but this program depends on you.
January 3 – (NO MEETING AT MATHEWS COTTAGE) HOLIDAY PARTY at 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Come for food, fun, and fellowship. Please bring something for the POTLUCK---and let Bob or Linda know what you are bringing. Don’t forget your “white elephant” for the exchange game. Please wrap your gift anonymously. See the enclosed flyer for added information.
