                                         SUNDAY PROGRAMS

August 1 –Vectors of Society: Three separate but closely connected factors defining societies are the economic, political and social systems. Because they are interlinked people confuse them, use the names for types of them incorrectly, and some, like the Tea Party group, get upset and use these terms as criticisms when they don't really know what they mean.  Jerry Parker will present this topic.  Come to hear his thoughts on the subject and share your own.  John Simpson will moderate.

August 8 – HOW RACISM COLORS OUR WORLD    Come and watch a brief video of Shirley Sherrod telling in her own words the events of the week of July 18th to July 22nd as she appears on a talk show in New York.  We will talk about race, respect, sexism and whatever else you think was involved in this incident.  Penny Hendricks will moderate.

August 15 – THE DIVINE AND DEMONIC NATURES   as they exist right now here straight from the Bhagavad Gita.  Dee Masters will present a very sensible and challenging look at the demons among us.  Dee Masters is a friend to our fellowship and just happens to be an excellent speaker.  Dee is a teacher and drama director at Bishop Montgomery High School.  He also teaches at Harbor College.  Thom Kilpatrick will moderate this morning.

August 22 – LIVING  FROM THE HEART   (AND HEALING THE PLANET FROM INSIDE OUT).  Our speaker is Simone Maudhui who will share some thoughts about the challenges facing us today and the power of the individual.  The passion of Simone is to expose the Universal Oneness underlying the diversity of forms in our world.  She works to build a synthesis among the religions, as well as between psychology and spirituality, and between science and religion. Penny Hendricks will moderate.

August 29 – ANNUAL  CELEBRATION   (No meeting at Mathews Cottage.)  Details for this once-a-year gathering to celebrate the South Bay Unitarian Fellowship are as follows. We meet at 12:30 p.m. at the 22nd Street Landing Seafood Grill Restaurant in San Pedro (located at 141 West 22nd Street). There are 7 menu options and each costs $15. Penny is coordinating brunch choices and collecting money. Entertainment will include a magic show by Magician Marty Gorman, courtesy of Peter Landecker, and consists of a PUC auction item he won.  Mark your calendars for August 29th.
