"Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”  “ In the end we will remember not the words of our enemies but the silence of our friends.”  “ Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”                                                                    Martin Luther King Jr.

                                         SUNDAY PROGRAMS

February 6IN HONOR OF DR. KING:  A LOOK BACK AT RACISM OVER THE LAST 25 YEARS   February is Black History Month.  In 1987 the holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was established (not an easy task).  We will see tape that demonstrates some of the attitudes of that time and remember the changes we have seen.  Come and learn, remember, and realize how extraordinary it is that we have a black family living in the White House today.    Penny Hendricks will moderate.

February 1310 RULES FOR RELATIONSHIP SUCCESS    Vanessa Poster and Morgan Kramer will take us through an interactive exercise to identify and clarify what they have identified as the top ten tools for Relationship Success.  Their tools fall into three categories: COMMUNICATION: how can you talk to your partner more effectively?, ACTIONS: what can you do, day-to-day to keep love alive? and SPIRITUALITY: what are the loving practices that nurture and support your partner and your love?  Whether you are single or in a relationship you will be able to share your wisdom and learn from this charming couple.  Les Berg will be the moderator.

February 20  Previously scheduled program postponed until March and there will be no meeting at Mathews cottage. There instead will be a memorial service for Beth Perkins at her home starting at 1 p.m.  [Program was WAKE-UP CALL:  RAISING OUR CONSCIOUSNESS  This is a tape introduced by Tom Brokaw, and featuring journalist Bob Woodward and Michelle Obama.  Whether you approved of the war or not, this will perhaps give you a new awareness of the thousands of people that have been affected and will continue to be affected every day. Thom Kilpatrick will moderate.]

February 27 –  JUDAISM    Speaker Dee Masters will provide some information and lead the discussion.  Judaism: Roots, modern, ritual/celebration.  He will share some words from the Jewish tradition.  Bring your ideas and experiences.  Unitarians and Judaism: Let's talk.  As a Unitarian, Dee enjoys exploring various religions and he is generous about sharing some of what he learns.  Dee Masters currently attends Pacific Unitarian Church.  Peter Landecker will moderate.

From the SBUF PresidentJust to say “thank you” to the people who handle the Opening and Closing of Mathews Cottage month after month.  When you attend on a Sunday morning you may notice how everyone pitches in to help put away and clean up.  The refreshments have been great, too.  Thanks to everyone---your attendance and energy are appreciated.
