                                         SUNDAY PROGRAMS

October 2- CATS AND DOGS   Dogs vs. cats—What pet do you have and what does it say about you?      And should you have a pet?  John Simpson will lead this discussion.

October 9 - “A TREASURE MAP TO HAPPINESSwill be presented by Wendy Treynor, PhD.  It will be on the topic of how to create a life worth living, how we can cultivate a sense of joy, peace, freedom, and meaning in our lives, even if everything we thought would be, is not.  Wendy Treynor is a 36 year-old happiness speaker.  “I have had cancer and been depressed and now I’m happy.  I am also a PhD. Psychologist who has studied emotion and depression, so now I weave science and spirit, my research and life experience together to help people appreciate their life.” Please come on time.

October 16 - ITALY, a program by Peter Landecker and Lenore Snodey. Seeing the world can give a new perspective on life.  Italians seemed to heartily enjoy their food and life. Come and feast your eyes on beautiful images taken by Peter in Tuscany  (including Florence and Siena) and the Amalfi Coast (including Sorrento and Positano).  They will also relate their impressions of Italian life, culture and history.  Moderator is Les Berg.

October 23 - "THE WHOLE DONUT, NOT JUST THE DONUT HOLE"-  Today our guest speaker is Ian Dodd.  “To define me by my atheism is like describing a donut by it's hole. It may be the most obvious feature, but it really leaves out all the best parts.”   Ian Dodd has been a member of the Unitarian Universalist Community Church of Santa Monica for 7 years where he recently served on the Ministerial Search Committee.  Currently he and his wife are developing a new 4th-5th grade Religious Education curriculum exploring the 21st century science-based creation story.  During the week he works as a film and TV camera operator.  Moderators:  Claire Aukerman and Davis Miller.

October 30 – WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE ABOUT DEATH?  Near death experiences – are they real?  These people have flat lined and come back to talk about it.   Their stories will amaze you, confound you, maybe even comfort you.  Dr. Oz narrates this  20-minute tape.  You will have a chance to share your thoughts.  Penny Hendricks will moderate.
