"Its not enough to just change the players.  We have to change the game.”

Barack Obama, January 4, 2007

                                         SUNDAY PROGRAMS

November 6 - “WHO AM I – MYTH OF MYSELF” by the late Alan Watts.  He was an interpreter to the West of Eastern religions (and non-religions)  and a self described philosophical entertainer.  Lloyd Drum presents this program of Alan Watts speaking on audio tape.  He will lead the discussion.  You may come to realize the truth of the statement “You are what the universe is doing at the location you call ‘I’.”  John Simpson will moderate.

November 13 – TOPIC FOR DISCUSSION:   "There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been.  The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."  from Isaac Asimov.  What do you think?  Come and talk about it.   Bob Johnson will moderate.

November 20 – A CELEBRATION OF AMERICA'S DIVERSITY OF RELIGIOUS BELIEF   by UU Rev. Marguerite Lovett.  Let’s celebrate the concept of religious “fairness” this thanksgiving. Article VI of the Constitution states “no religious Test shall ever be required as Qualification to any office or public Trust under the United States.”  And the First Amendment states: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.  It has not been easy being fair; some find it nearly impossible to be respectful.  It is our heritage and demands vigilance to keep it alive and healthy.  Rev. Marguerite Lovett  was minister of Long Beach Unitarian Church for more than 18 years and is making a return visit to the fellowship.  She is an excellent speaker with a wonderful Boston accent. Penny Hendricks will moderate.

November 27 – SOME THINGS WE CAN BE GRATEFUL FOR    So often in the struggle for Justice and amid the details of living, we forget that there are some quite remarkable moments and people who make our lives possible, better and more effective.  Our speaker Rev. Jim Conn asks us to think about this and share our people/stories too.  Jim Conn has retired from his work with the Methodist Church.  He has been and still is involved with social issues of the greater community.  Carol Simpson is moderator.
