                                         SUNDAY PROGRAMS

April 1 - REVILLAGIGEDO ISLANDS    Peter Landecker visited the volcanic Revillagigedo Islands (including Socorro) in the Pacific west of Mexico in this exotic Scuba diving trip made friends with boobies and 25 foot wide manta rays. Come and hear Peter relate his experiences in this isolated biological refuge and see the images and videos he recorded.  Les Berg will moderate. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revillagigedo_Islands

April 8 - JESUS:  CHARISMATIC, SAGE, PROPHET, AND RADICAL REFORMER  Jesus was all of these.  Today our guest speaker is Rev. Marguerite D. Lovett who served as minister of Long Beach Unitarian Church for more than 17 years.  In this talk Marguerite will share a vision of Jesus that may help us with our own vision of him and life.  Moderator:  Bob Johnson Note that due to the illness of the speaker, this presentation is postponed, and there will not be a meeting today.

April 15 - AND JUSTICE FOR ALL   Of course, this is an assumption that depends on where you live, the color of your skin, who is on “neighborhood watch”, what you are wearing, and who is in charge of the investigation.  Are we going to pay attention long enough to make a difference?   Come to share your thoughts about Trayvon Martin and the “stand your ground laws”.  Penny Hendricks will lead the program.

April 22 - A WALK DOWN POLITICAL MEMORY LANE   Bob Schieffer, long time TV host of Face the Nation, wrote the book "Face the Nation" commemorating the first 50 years of the show's broadcasts.  The companion DVD features clips from some of the show's earliest interviews.  Senator Joe McCarthy, Nikita Khrushchev, and Martin Luther King Jr. are but a few we can choose to watch. Each clip is about five minutes long and discussion is welcome.      Moderator:  Linda Klein

April 29 - BELTANE WHO?    We all know about Passover/Easter, but what’s this Beltane thing?  Must be a character in Shakespeare.  No?  Then why do people bother with these minor matters?  Some reflections on getting into spring and moving toward summer.  Rev. Jim Conn is the founding minister of the Church in Ocean Park and served on the Santa Monica City Council and as the Mayor.  He helped found Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice, Los Angeles.  Jim was a founder of Santa Monica’s Renter’s Rights Campaign.  Penny Hendricks will moderate.
