September 2014 Newsletter
“It is through the truthful exercising of the best of human qualities---respect for others, honesty about ourselves, faith in our ideals,---that we come to life in God’s eyes. It is how our soul, as a nation, and as individuals is revealed.” Bruce Springsteen, New York Times, 2004
SUNDAY
PROGRAMS
September
7 – GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING to begin the fiscal year. Everyone come and use the opportunity to express your
opinion. We will be the speakers. Come and talk about the fellowship
and what would make your participation be more enjoyable. We can make
changes if we know what you want. If we share doing things, then no one
has to feel overwhelmed. Please come and enjoy some refreshments, ask
questions and offer any ideas you may have. There are some issues that may
require a vote. There are a couple of on-going tasks that need a
volunteer.
September 14 –
THE MANZANAR FISHING CLUB Japanese American fishermen living in the
World War II Manzanar internment camp sought and found moments of freedom by
escaping to fish in the Eastern Sierra of California. Lorna McClellan will
share parts of a DVD which traces this story of the human spirit.
September 21 –
A TALK BY ALAN WATTS “Jesus, His Religion or the Religion about Him” We
will listen to the recorded words of Alan Watts. Lloyd Drum leads
the discussion.
September 28 –
LONG STRANGE TRIP We will begin a series of the history of
Unitarian and Universalist thought from the beginning of the Christian era to
what we know today as Unitarian Universalism Thanks to Meron for
bringing us this series.
