“The country is in deep trouble. We’ve forgotten that a rich life consists fundamentally of serving others, trying to leave the world a little better than you found it.”  Cornel West (2004)

                                               SUNDAY PROGRAMS

February 1 THE FUTURE OF GOD   We will view more of a tape presented by KCET of Deepak Chopra and discuss our personal “take” about what he  has to say.  Penny Hendricks will moderate.  (We viewed the first part of this tape December 28.)

February 8    NIRVANA – from Buddha to Jill Bolte Taylor   Our guest speaker will show how Buddha’s, Fyodor Dostoevsky’s, a bus driver’s and Jill Bolte Taylor’s experience of Nirvana are strikingly similar.  Jill Bolte Taylor’s TED talk, My Stroke of Insight, where she reenacts and explains both her stroke and Nirvana experience.  Lorna McClellan will moderate.

February 15 – POETRY  Come to share poems of others or your own poetry.  Come to listen and enjoy.  Your “personal” sharing is optional, of course.  Lorna McClellan will lead this program.

February 22 – THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE,  the “other” history of the United States. Meron Castain has read a version of history presented from another point of view.  You may be surprised at what he learned!

In November one of our members, Eleanor Thrane, suffered a severe heart attack.  At this time she is at Lomita Post Acute Center, 1955 Lomita Boulevard, Lomita, CA 90717.  Visiting is possible, but call first (310) 325-1970.

The fellowship extends our love and sympathy to Joe Marcin whose wife Mary Marcin passed during the first week of January 2015.  Mary had been doing battle with one thing after the other and nothing seemed to work.  We are very sorry for this loss.

A longtime SBUF member passed on December 1.  Marilyn Doty was living in Portland, Oregon near her daughter.  For more information, call Penny.

From UUA:  We covenant to affirm and promise a free and responsible search for truth and meaning. A goal of world community with peace, liberty and justice for all.

How do I become a member of the South Bay Unitarian Fellowship?  Membership is open to all persons 15 years of age or older who sign a membership card expressing agreement with the purpose of the Fellowship.  Members become eligible to vote and hold office three months after signing membership cards.  Members are expected to participate in SBUF activities and to provide a helping hand and financial support when needed and are able to do so.
