                                               SUNDAY PROGRAMS   

 

March 1 – IN THE NEWS, AND ON YOUR MIND, AND DON’T FORGET TO VOTE!     There’s immigration reform, equal pay for women, funding for national security, etc.  What personal concerns do you have?  Come and talk about it.   Penny Hendricks will lead the program

 

March 8 – UUSC Unitarian Universalist Service Committee.  Remembering when this organization began.  We will learn what has been accomplished since 1941 when the organization began.  Bob Johnson will moderate. 

 

March 15 – MYSTICAL EXPERIENCE This will be a video taped program by KCET from Global Spirit.  This is a discussion by a monk, a sufi and a rabbi.  Lloyd Drum presents this program.  Hear their ideas.  Have you had a “Mystical Experience?  Lloyd will moderate the program. 

 

March 22 –  “IN MY BEGINNING IS MY END”, quotation from T.S. Eliot.  Today’s speaker is Jon Dobrer.  Rev. Jon Dobrer, a Starr King and Theological Union graduate, served UU Church in Fullerton from 1993-2014 retiring in June after 45 years in the ministry.  He received the honor of Emeritus Minister at their congregational meeting on June 1st, 2014, by unanimous vote. Although retiring from UUCF, he will continue teaching, doing columns for newsgroups, newspapers and writing about our world with wit, insight and candor .  Penny Hendricks will moderate.  

March 29 – UNITARIAN AND UNIVERSALIST WOMEN MINISTERS  Our denomination has a rich history of pioneering women. Using a book written by Catherine Hitchings, we will learn about some of the UU women ministers active from 1863 to 1975.  Come to be inspired by their energy and courage. Moderator:  Lorna McClellan

*******Attention: For Openers and Refreshment Persons  *********************

Openers arrive at 10:30 a.m., unlock doors, cabinet, put out sign, start water, put on tablecloths, make the coffee, start the water, set-up cups, etc. for the refreshments.  Please display the fellowship candle on the circular table. Place the Guest Book, name tags, and offering basket on the long table. 

Refreshments need to arrive by 11:00 a.m.  Please arrange a trade if you cannot attend or clean up on the day assigned.  When you bring refreshments, it is your turn to be responsible for the clean up of the entire refreshment table including the coffee water and supplies.  If you need help, just ask.  By the way, thank you very much!

March 29 THE CONCERT SINGERS will perform Hail Brittania (English Choral Music). Includes music of Ralph Williams, Vaughn Williams, John Rutter, and Benjamin Britten. Pre-Concert at 3:15     Concert at 4:00 p.m.  Westchester United Methodist Church, 8065 Emerson Ave., LA.    Cost: $15 tickets or $17 at the door

 

***************Communications Corner**************************

In November one of our members, Eleanor Thrane, suffered a severe heart attack.  At this time she is at Lomita Post Acute Center, 1955 Lomita Boulevard, Lomita, CA 90717.  Visiting is possible, but call first (310) 325-1970. 

The fellowship extends our love and sympathy to Joe Marcin whose wife Mary Marcin passed during the first week of January 2015.  Mary had been doing battle with one thing after the other and nothing seemed to work.  We are very sorry for this loss. 

A longtime SBUF member passed on December 1.  Marilyn Doty was living in Portland, Oregon near her daughter.  For more information, call Penny.

How do I become a member of the South Bay Unitarian Fellowship?  Membership is open to all persons 15 years of age or older who sign a membership card expressing agreement with the purpose of the Fellowship.  Members become eligible to vote and hold office three months after signing membership cards.  Members are expected to participate in SBUF activities and to provide a helping hand and financial support when needed and are able to do so.  

 

SBUF Programs   If there is a particular topic you would like to see presented on a Sunday morning, or an organization you want to know more about, or a good book you would like to share, or any other ideas for Sunday morning programs, please call Penny Hendricks.
