                                               SUNDAY PROGRAMS   

 

May 3 – IN THE NEWS AND ON YOUR MIND    What concerns do you have?  Why are some problems getting worse?  Come and talk about it.  Penny Hendricks will open this program. 

May 10 – WHY ALL THE CONTROVERSY ABOUT THE TPP - Trans Pacific Partnership?  Our guest speaker will share some facts about the current state of US trade, and some pros and cons of this very significant trade deal to start the discussion.  Carol Simpson will moderate.    

May 17 – TRUTHINESS ABOUT VACCINATIONS   Watch a video tape of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. as he talks to Bill Maher about the problems and misinformation that surrounds the necessity of forcing parents to vaccinate their children.  Penny will moderate.  

May 24 – MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND (No meeting at Mathews’ Cottage)  Pacific Unitarian Church invites us to the annual ceremony honoring several members and friends of PUC who have passed away during this year.  A memorial tile for Lenore Snodey will be installed today following the 10:30 a.m. church service.  After the ceremony, a lunch will be served on the patio.

 

May 31 – UNDERSTANDING ISLAM  The speaker is Minister Emeritus Jon Dobrer who retired in June 2014 as minister of UU Church of Fullerton.  He is still teaching and writing his newspaper column.  His experience includes time living in the Middle East.

*******Attention: For Openers and Refreshment Persons  *********************

Openers arrive at 10:30 a.m., unlock doors, cabinet, put out sign, start water, put on tablecloths, make the coffee, start the water, set-up cups, etc. for the refreshments.  Please display the fellowship candle on the circular table. Place the Guest Book, name tags, and offering basket on the long table. 

Refreshments need to arrive by 11:00 a.m.  Please arrange a trade if you cannot attend or clean up on the day assigned.  When you bring refreshments, it is your turn to be responsible for the clean up of the entire refreshment table including the coffee water and supplies.  If you need help, just ask.  By the way, thank you very much!

In November, one of our members, Eleanor Thrane, suffered a severe heart attack.  At this time she is at a small rest home not far from her residence in Torrance.  She can have visitors.  Call Penny for more information.  

Bonnie Folkart is recovering from Open Heart Surgery in Torrance Memorial. She can have visitors and phone calls.  For information call Penny. 

Claire Aukerman will have knee surgery in May.

How do I become a member of the South Bay Unitarian Fellowship?  Membership is open to all persons 15 years of age or older who sign a membership card expressing agreement with the purpose of the Fellowship.  Members become eligible to vote and hold office three months after signing membership cards.  Members are expected to participate in SBUF activities and to provide a helping hand and financial support when needed and are able to do so.  

 

SBUF Programs   If there is a particular topic you would like to see presented on a Sunday morning, or an organization you want to know more about, or a good book you would like to share, or any other ideas for Sunday morning programs, please call Penny Hendricks.
