                                               SUNDAY PROGRAMS   

 

August 2 – IN THE NEWS AND ON YOUR MIND    IF IT BOTHERS YOU, LET’S TALK ABOUT IT! What news concerns do you have? Carol and John Simpson will lead the discussion.  Come and share your thoughts.

 

 August 9 –  INCOME AND WEALTH INEQUALITY   The US has the second worst income inequality of OECD countries.  An overview of this topic will be presented from the perspectives of three non-conventional economists - Hyman Minsky and Steven Keen predicted the 2008 crash; Thomas Piketty explains inequality in his book - Capital in the 21st Century. 

 

 August 16 - WEAVING WORDS    Come to share a favorite poem, and your thoughts about what it expresses, ..Share poems of others or your own poetry.  Come to listen and enjoy.  Lorna McClellan will lead this program. 

August 23 – WHAT IS THE GLOBAL SOLUTION?   This is a program presented on HBO that shows what is happening to our earth.  We see the naysayers and hear them in denial.  We see the ice melting and the how the earth is beginning being affected. Penny brings this taped program. 

August 30 – KEEPING IT POSITIVE    We welcome Rev. Teri Masters and her loving spirit to help us hold on to a mellow attitude and keep the cup half full.  Teri is an interfaith minister and officiating Minister at Wayfarers Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes.  Penny Hendricks will moderate.

*******Attention: For Openers and Refreshment Persons  *********************

Openers arrive at 10:30 a.m., unlock doors, cabinet, put out sign, start water, put on tablecloths, make the coffee, start the water, set-up cups, etc. for the refreshments.  Please display the fellowship candle on the circular table. Place the Guest Book, name tags, and offering basket on the long table. 

Refreshments need to arrive by 11:00 a.m.  Please arrange a trade if you cannot attend or clean up on the day assigned.  When you bring refreshments, it is your turn to be responsible for the clean up of the entire refreshment table including the coffee water and supplies.  If you need help, just ask.  By the way, thank you very much!

***************Communications Corner**************************

In November, one of our members, Eleanor Thrane, suffered a severe heart attack.  At this time she is at a small rest home not far from her residence in Torrance.  She can have visitors.  Call Penny for more information.

Bonnie Folkart is recovering from Open Heart Surgery and has been able to return to us. We missed you and your side-kick!  Bonnie can benefit from TLC.

Claire Aukerman had knee surgery on June 21 and is at home healing.

How do I become a member of the South Bay Unitarian Fellowship?  Membership is open to all persons 15 years of age or older who sign a membership card expressing agreement with the purpose of the Fellowship.  Members become eligible to vote and hold office three months after signing membership cards.  Members are expected to participate in SBUF activities and to provide a helping hand and financial support when needed and are able to do so.  

 

SBUF Programs   If there is a particular topic you would like to see presented on a Sunday morning, or an organization you want to know more about, or a good book you would like to share, or any other ideas for Sunday morning programs, please call Penny Hendricks.
