                                               SUNDAY PROGRAMS   

August 7 - ON YOUR MIND OR IN THE NEWS     Penny Hendricks will lead the program which will allow you to bring up for discussion whatever concerns you may have. 

 

August 14 – THE 9/11 REPORT…THERE ARE 28 PAGES THAT WERE NOT RELEASED.   This is a report from “60 Minutes   What is really in those redacted pages (Blacked out).  Should the American people be able to see what is in the report?  Come see the report and talk about what you think.  Penny Hendricks brings the report.  

 

August 21 – VOTER SUPPRESSION (The only way republicans can win).  Voting Rights Act of 1965 renewed in July 2006 with a vote of 98-0 in senate and 390-33 in house. In June of 2013 Roberts, Scalia and their conservative buddies threw out Section 5 (pre-approval).  Voter suppression was off to the races.  Details in Thom Hartmann YouTube. 

 

August 28 – THREE DAYS Space Shuttle Endeavor was squeezed between buildings and trees to the cheers of enthusiastic street crowds on its way to the USC Science Center.  Endeavor continues to fire up young minds.  Come to be inspired by this unusual journey.  Lorna McClellan shares this DVD  and will be the moderator.

 *****ATTENTION: For Openers and Refreshment persons:  *********************

OPENERS arrive at 10:30, unlock doors, cabinet, put out signs, put on tablecloths, make the coffee, start water, set up cups, coffee, etc. for the refreshments.  Please display the fellowship candle on the circular table.  Place the Guest Book, name tags, and offering basket on the long table.

REFRESHMENTS need to arrive by 11:00 a.m.  Please arrange a trade if you cannot attend or clean up on the day assigned.  When you bring refreshments, it is your turn to be responsible for the clean up of the entire refreshment table including the coffee, water, tablecloths and supplies.  If you need help, just ask.

   If you cannot bring refreshments on the date listed in the newsletter, you may call someone and trade with them for another date that will be more convenient for you.

Hooray!  We have a new member.  Yullan Valor signed a SBUF membership card in March.  Yullan has attended whenever her schedule permitted and has added some tasty additions to some of our potlucks.  Welcome,Yullan  

Spring has Sprung and the Fellowship is growing.  We have another new member and it is only April.  Bernard Elias signed a SBUF membership card on April 24th.  The next time you are at fellowship, introduce yourself.

How do I become a member of the South Bay Unitarian Fellowship?  Membership is open to all persons 15 years of age or older who sign a membership card expressing agreement with the purpose of the Fellowship.  Members become eligible to vote and hold office three months after signing membership cards.  Members are expected to participate in SBUF activities and to provide a helping hand and financial support when needed and are able to do so.  

 

SBUF Programs   If there is a particular topic you would like to see presented on a Sunday morning, or an organization you want to know more about, or a good book you would like to share, or any other ideas for Sunday morning programs, please call Penny Hendricks. Your input is valuable!  Thank you for your help.
