SUNDAY  PROGRAMS

 

June 17.   SATIE.  Simplicity and satire.  Piano music by an eccentric Frenchman.  Moderator: Rich Johnson

 

June 24.   A REFRESHING JOURNEY.  Join us for a trip through the Mediterranean with Peter Landecker and Lenore Snodey.  Expect outstanding slides, escape the routine, pique your curiosity.  Moderators: Peter and Lenore

 

July  1.   QUICKEN THE SPIRIT.  Beth Perkins will lead us in stretching and easy exercises.  Feel animated and literally moved.  Moderator: Beth Perkins

 

July  8.   CHINESE BRUNCH.  A delectable time will be had at The China Grill.  Choose from Dim Sum or a regular lunch menu of Chinese food.  Meet at The China Grill at noon in the Manhattan Village Mall, off Sepulveda Blvd. in Manhattan Beach, between Marine Ave. and Rosecrans Ave.  The China Grill is located next to The California Pizza Kitchen, in the mall area south of the movie theaters, and north of Ralphs and Sav-On.  (No meeting at Mathews Cottage)

 

July 15.   T B D  (to be determined).  If you have an idea of a topic for discussion, call Beth or Les Berg.

 

July 22.   THE PURPOSE OF RELIGION.  Eastern and Western religions compared.  Bill Nunan will speak and moderate.

 

July 29.   POT LUCK!  We gather at Beth Perkins' home at 1:00 pm  in Hawthorne.  Directions:  go north on Aviation Blvd., past Rosecrans Blvd., take a right hand turn at 138th St. (opposite the Xerox building with blue and yellow sculptures outside).  Go two blocks east, take a left hand turn on Rossburn, park anywhere on this small, keyhole-shaped street.  Please call Beth to let her know what you are bringing.  (No meeting at Mathews Cottage)

 

August 5.   CONSERVING NATURE.  Peter Landecker will present a program on the Nature Conservancy, a charitable organization devoted to the preservation of habitats for the benefit of wildlife and humans.  Peter will moderate.

 

August 12.   WORDS TO LIVE BY / LAUGH WITH / BE INSPIRED BY.  This will be a sharing program of something someone said.  Bring one of your favorite thoughts, spoken by someone else that moved you, made you smile, or made you think and/or disagree with.  Penny Hendricks will lead this program.

     *****ATTENTION: For Openers and Refreshment persons:  *****

OPENERS arrive at 10:30 a.m., unlock doors, cabinet, put out sign, start water, put on tablecloth, set up cups, coffee, etc. for the refreshments.  Please display the fellowship candle.

REFRESHMENTS need to arrive by 10:45.  Please arrange a trade if you cannot attend or clean up on the day assigned.  When you bring refreshments, it is your turn to be responsible for the  clean up of the entire refreshment table including the coffee water and supplies.  If you need help, just ask.  By the way, thank-you very much!!!

If you cannot bring refreshments on the date listed in the newsletter, you may call someone and trade with them for another date that is more convenient.

June 17.  SBUF Board Meeting at Mathews Cottage after fellowship.

 

June 17.  The Concert Singers will offer a free concert which will include the Mozart Requiem.  It will be performed at the Covenant Presbyterian Church at 80th Street and Sepulveda in Westchester.  For additional information call Rich Johnson.  He will be singing.  The concert is at 4:00 p.m.

Did you know we now have a “Sunday School” that is meeting in Mathews Cottage on Sunday mornings before the adult meeting???  Thanks to Bill Nunan, we now have a program for children.

 

Hurrah, SBUF is growing!  Take time to introduce yourself to John and Carol Simpson of Hermosa Beach.  They joined the fellowship membership in May. 

 

IN LOVING MEMORY of Marian Kerr, a grove of five trees will be planted.  We sure do miss you, Marion.
