SUNDAY PROGRAMS
June 11 - POTLUCK WITH A TWIST (no meeting at Mathews Cottage today) Everyone welcome to come to Bob and Linda’s at 4:00 p.m., for food, fellowship, and fun. This potluck has a “twist” in that main dishes and desert will be provided What will be needed are some side dishes and salads to go with. Dinner will be followed by a GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING. These meetings are required 3 times a year to take care of fellowship business. The particular business of this meeting will be the election of the SBUF board for July 2006 – June 2007. The following members have agreed to serve on the new board if so elected. The slate is open to anyone else who would like to volunteer. The perspective board members are: Richard Johnson, John Simpson, Penny Hendricks, Beth Perkins, Les Berg, and Peter Landecker. If you would like to add your name to the list, come to the potluck. 18 - RADICAL REPATTERNING: THE
NECESSARY ILLUSION OF CONTROL The
topic concerns letting go of habitual reactivity, old conditioning, and
transforming identity issues. Barbara
Reinhart, a lifelong Unitarian, returns to speak to us.
Penny Hendricks will moderate.
June
25 - EASTERN ORTHODOX What do they believe? Who are they? Are they Catholics
without a pope? Do they have anything in common with the evangelicals or
Protestants? Learn the answers to these and other questions By coming and
hearing from a real member of a Orthodox parish, a convert, Larry Kisby.
Linda Klein will moderate.
July
2 - CONCERNS OF THE DAY Come and share a concern you have and let’s talk about it.
We will have open discussion on a topic you bring up.
Rich Johnson will moderate.
July
9 - THE LONG EMERGENCY What will happen
to American society as we confront the end of the cheap-fossil-fuel era? Author
James Howard Kunstler refers to the coming times as "The Long
Emergency," and warns that the crisis will change everything about the way
we live. Carol Simpson will moderate this program based on Kunstler's
predictions.
July 16 - YOUR CONSCIOUSNESS Rev. Jim Conn will present the program this morning. Phillip Roth’s new novel, THOUGHTS ON THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF “EVERYMAN” IN THE 6TH YEAR OF THE 21ST CENTURY takes its title from the medieval morality play; and it pushes me to ask a few questions that usually go unasked in the public arena. If we are so comfortable, why do we feel so anxious? If we are so strong, why do we feel so afraid? If we are so wealthy, why do we feel so poor? Is there a name for this sense of dis-ease? Rev. Jim Conn serves as the Director of New Ministries for the California-Pacific Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, where he previously served as Urban Strategist. For 22 years, he was the United Methodist Minister of the untraditional "Church in Ocean Park." Jim was also a former mayor of the City of Santa Monica. Peter Landecker will moderate.
July
23 – STOP GENOCIDE NOW Amnesty International activist Gabriel Stauring will share
slides and a video presentation.

ANNUAL AUCTION Did you “buy” a breakfast, a haircut, a dinner or refreshments??? If you did, be sure to follow up with your offering or to enjoy your purchase. Last year the auction was held later in the fiscal year on May 14. This year we are trying a variation of the auction, something with new twist that will combine fund raising with social activity.
