June 2010  Newsletter

“Virtually everything the average person sees or hears outside of her own personal communications is  determined by the interests of private, unaccountable executives and investors whose primary goal is increasing profits.   More insidiously, this small group of elites determines what ordinary people do not see or hear.”                                                                      Bill Moyers

                                         SUNDAY PROGRAMS

June 6 – DOCTOR KEVORKIAN   Hear and see Dr. Kevorkian in this taped interview.  He is the advocate for allowing people to die with dignity.  He and others have proposed helping people who want this choice.  The tape is brief----come and talk about your thoughts and feelings regarding this emotional issue.  Penny Hendricks will moderate.

June 13 - TO PROPOSE - AND PERCHANCE TO PERFORM Liberals/progressives/reformers are vocal with proposals that, if realized, would probably give us a better world.  But a group of "realities" have rendered these proposals largely inoperative.  Well, let's analyze and deconstruct these realities to see how they might be overcome.  Our very special friend and Reverend Emeritus Ernie Pipes will present this idea.  Bob Johnson will moderate.

June 20 – PHILEMON AND BAUCUS     The Roman chronicler Ovid tells the tale of Philemon and Baucus, a man and woman living lovingly from youth to old age.  Philosopher (but not the kind who puts you to sleep) Jacob Needleman retells this myth and applies it to illuminate a “journey toward the birth within ourselves of a new and more authentic humanity.”  Thom Kilpatrick presents. Moderator is Meron.

June 27 – ANTARCTICA!    Peter Landecker and Lenore Snodey will present the video portion of their  recent adventure visiting Antarctica and southern South America (Argentina, Falkland Islands of UK, Chile, Uruguay). They will project a beautiful video of icebergs, mountains, glaciers, penguins and seals which they made. They also visited members of an Argentine Unitarian Fellowship. Claire Aukerman and Irma Cohen were also on this Princess cruise and will share their experiences as well.  Claire Aukerman will moderate.

July 11 – SUMMER POTLUCK  (Details in next newsletter).
